Utah Tech University offers two medical plans (Traditional or HDHP with HSA) through Public Employees Health Plan (PEHP).

Our medical insurance also offers a free Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Blomquist Hale.

Utah Tech University offers dental insurance through EMI Health Dental.  Dental plan uses preferred providers (available on the EMI website) but non-preferred provider coverage is available at the same rate as preferred with the employee paying any remaining balance.

Employees, their legal spouses, and unmarried children (biological or legally adopted) up to age 26 are eligible for life insurance benefits through New York Life. This includes automatic enrollment in Utah Tech’s group life insurance, voluntary life insurance, and access to the Life Assistance Program.

If you had an unexpected illness or injury and were unable to work, how long would you be able to pay your bills?  New York Life Long-term disability pays a portion of your salary if you’re unable to work due to a covered disability.

RETIREMENT PROGRAMS

Employer-funded plans for employees in benefit-eligible (0.75 FTE or greater) positions. Employee-funded plans available to all employees of the University

WORKERS COMPENSATION

All employees are covered by State Industrial Insurance. This provides for hospital costs, physician’s fees and weekly benefit payments while absent from work due to injury incurred while at work. The entire cost is borne by Utah Tech University.

UNIVERSITY HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

University observes 13 holidays during the calendar year. The University designates 12 of these holidays and the employee utilizes a floating personal preference day for the remaining holiday.

Utah Tech University also recognizes that it is important for employees to have time away from work. See University Policy 346 within the Policy Library for more details about staff leave accruals and usage on campus.

PEHP - Medical / Vision Coverage

Scheduled PEHP Campus Visits

 

Utah Tech’s dedicated PEHP representative, Justin Seal, visits campus monthly to assist with medical and vision benefit questions. No appointment is required; visit dates are shared in the monthly HR newsletter. On-campus visits are held on a first-come, first-served basis in the HR Conference Room (BNO 142).

Justin is also available Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. by email at justin.seal@pehp.org or by phone at 801-493-5441.

Telemedicine with Fia Care

PEHP has partnered with Telemedicine, Fia Care to provide convenient and affordable care options.

Try Fia Care for urgent needs such as:

  • Eye infections
  • Joint pain or strains
  • Minor skin problems
  • And other minor conditions

Cost:

  • Traditional Plan: $10 copay per visit
  • High-Deductible Plan (e.g. STAR HSA Plan) $49.99 per visit after deductible
  • Note: Fia Care is available on all PEHP networks. Subscription not required for telemedicine.

 

IRS Increases HSA Limits for 2026

  • Individual contribution limit:  $4,400
  • Double/Family contribution limit:  $8,750

If you would like to make changes to your personal contributions to your HSA account please complete an HSA change form in NEOED or email HR with a change request at benefits@utahtech.edu.

EMI - Dental Insurance

Utah Tech’s dedicated EMI Health representative, Shawn Park, is available by phone or email to assist with questions about dental claims, setting up an online EMI Health account, and navigating account features.

Shawn also visits campus once a month to meet with employees on a first-come, first-served basis in the HR Conference Room (BNO 142). Appointment dates and times are shared with employees through the monthly HR newsletter.

TIAA Appointments

 

A TIAA representative is available for one-on-one, in-person appointments on campus several days each quarter to discuss employee 401(a), 403(b), and 457(b) retirement accounts. UTAH RETIREMENT SYSTEMS (URS)

Utah Retirement Systems (URS) is offering one-on-one Retirement Planning Sessions via telephone or Webex video conferences. These sessions will be identical in format to the in-person sessions that have previously been offered at locations throughout the state. These Planning Sessions are designed for ALL career stages: beginning, middle, end.

To register for a URS retirement planning session:

  • Go to www.urs.org.
  • Log into your myURS account.
  • Click on the Education Tab.
  • Click on “Individual Retirement Planning Sessions”.
  • Find the date and time that works best for you. Although the URS main offices are located in Salt Lake County, feel free to sign up for any telephone or Webex session wherever you live in the state.
  • Complete the Investor Profile Questionnaire (you will be directed to the online questionnaire as you register for your appointment). Please have the following with you for your appointment:
    • your current gross pay rate, b. any retirement plan balances outside of URS,
    • your URS account log in information (user ID and password)
    • and your Social Security statement (get yours at www.ssa.gov).

URS will call you at the phone number listed on your myURS profile at the time of your appointment. Be sure to check this number for accuracy in advance of your appointment. Please note: These sessions are NOT to apply for retirement. To apply for retirement, contact the URS Pension Department at (800) 695-4877.

IRS Increases Limits for Supplemental Retirement Plans

For 401k/403(b) and 457 plans, the contribution limits are increasing to $24,500 for the 2026 calendar year.  If you are age 50 and over, the catch-up amount increases to $8,000.

  • If you have TIAA and would like to change your supplemental retirement contributions, please complete the Payroll Deduction form in NEOED eForms (accessible from the Forms link on your dashboard). Forms must be submitted at least 7 business days before payday to take effect for that payroll. All changes must be made through eForms—not on the TIAA website.
  • If you have URS, please make changes directly in your URS online account (urs.org/myurs). Once we receive notification from URS, the update will be applied to the next available payroll.
